What the jumpscare actually shows

When The Locust closes into strike range, the run cuts instantly: a red-tinted jumpscare fills the screen, the death screen follows, and you wake again in the familiar starting corridor. There is no health bar, no wounded state and no struggle minigame — direct line-of-sight contact is lethal on touch.

First death keeps some progress

Walkthroughs of recent builds agree on one mercy rule: after your first death, placed puzzle pieces stay where you left them. Cubes already seated on pads remain seated, so the objective chain survives even though you restart the walk from the beginning.

Die a second time without purchasing a revive and the entire chain starts clean. Solo players effectively bank one mistake per run; co-op teams lose momentum together when everyone falls.

The audio countdown before the scare

The scare rarely arrives unannounced. Heavy footsteps filter through the wallpapered hallways first, breathing joins once the creature closes into its pre-strike zone, and visual contact means the window is already gone. Wall graffiti states the doctrine outright: KEEP A LOW PROFILE OR HE SHALL COME — move in short, quiet cycles instead of sprinting everywhere.

Dodging, not tanking

No defensive items exist to absorb a grab. Working dodges reported across sources: duck into vents and crawlspaces and let the patrol pass, pre-plan two exits from every room you enter, and use corners or furniture to break line of sight before a chase properly starts.
