How to Get the Keycard in House of The Locust

The Keycard is never found in a room — it hangs on The Locust. Two safe grab methods, retreat-route planning, and how to recover a dropped card after a death.

The Keycard is carried, not stored

Unlike the Wire Cutter and the randomized Key, the Keycard is never a room pickup. It travels with The Locust itself, which makes retrieval the single most dangerous step of the entire escape chain.

That danger is why the walk-up deserves planning: know where you will retreat to before you take a single step toward the creature.

Method 1 — approach from behind

Wait until The Locust is moving away from you and clearly facing the opposite direction. Move in only as far as needed for the pickup trigger to fire. The moment the card enters your inventory, turn around and follow your planned escape route without looking for extra loot.

Method 2 — use an opening or obstacle

Depending on The Locust’s position and the surrounding layout, you can sometimes grab the card through a narrow opening or gap without stepping directly into its patrol path. Side rooms reached through low crawlspace openings are natural spots for these wall-gap pickups.

Obstacle grabs depend heavily on positioning, so circle the area and look for geometry between you and the creature before committing.

If the carrier dies

When The Locust goes down — typically to concentrated attacks from a crowded co-op server — the dropped Keycard stays wherever the carrier fell. Return to the death spot and recover the card before repeating the whole search elsewhere.

In group play this becomes a coordination job: one player lures, others press the attack, and someone keeps the retreat lane clear.

Where the card goes afterwards

The Keycard is the last item used on the green EXIT door, after the Wire Cutter opens the keypad lock and the Key turns the keyhole. Line up all three before you make the grab so the exit sequence takes seconds, not minutes.
