House of The Locust Key: Cabinet Search Guide
The Key hides in one of the wooden cabinets around the house. How the Search prompt works, what empty cabinets mean, where the Key fits the EXIT door.
What the Key unlocks
The final grey double door carries a bright green EXIT sign. Its locks split in two: a keypad lock on the left side that wants the Wire Cutter, and a keyhole on the right side that takes the Key. Both interactions have to happen before the doors slide open onto the white corridor.
Experienced players memorize the EXIT door’s position early — during the calm exploration phase — because that knowledge pays off when the hunt is loud and disorienting.
How the cabinet hunt works
Wooden cabinets are scattered throughout the wallpapered hallways, side rooms and crawlspace corners. Stand close enough to one and an interaction prompt labeled Search appears. Interact, and the cabinet either yields the Key or turns out to be empty.
One cabinet always holds the Key — but which one changes run to run, because the placement is randomized each session.
Searching efficiently
Checked cabinets stay cleared, so sweep methodically in one direction instead of zig-zagging back over ground you have already covered.
Do the hunt early in the run while The Locust patrols predictably. Every minute spent rummaging late in the game raises the odds that a grab attempt or exit sprint collides with the creature’s route.
Why the Key feels different every run
Pre-alpha shuffles more than just cabinets: cube positions and patrol habits also drift between updates. Treat each reset as a fresh hunt rather than repeating yesterday’s winning cabinet order, and lean on landmark navigation instead of memorized coordinates.
